Spring marks the beginning of Deer Tick Season

The warm spring weather marks the beginning of Deer Tick Season in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Deer ticks can carry and spread Lyme disease.  The transmission of Lyme disease takes several hours so quickly removing ticks is important.   According to the University of Maryland Integrated Pest Management program, “Deet will provide some protection and can be applied to clothing or skin. Labeled Permethrin sprays can be applied to clothing and allowed to dry before putting them back on to protect against ticks. You can buy clothing already treated with permethrin and there are several brand name outdoor clothing lines that advertise as pretreated to deal with ticks.”
