Denison Landscaping is a family owned business in operation for more than 47 years. We have an immediate opening for the “Assistant Plant Healthcare Manager” position in our Abby Farms Division, located in Accokeek, MD.

The job description is as follows but will not be limited to: 

  • Create and Implement a diverse IPM plan for field grown and container grown material
  • Set Pest and Disease tolerance thresholds
  • Manage the IPM team and set their daily schedule
  • Establish Pest/Disease Calendar with expected emergent dates for farm staff to begin scouting areas of responsibility. In addition to providing pictures for reference of any plant/pests diseases for all staff to use as guide.
  • Maintain the chemical room and all logs associated with chemical storage & application organized and up to date.
  • Sourcing and Purchase of Materials according to company policy/procedure necessary to carry out the IPM program.
  • Scout all farms for pest/disease issues and seek guidance from industry professionals as needed.
  • Manage weed control in the fields & container areas using both PFE & post emergent chemicals
  • Seek new innovations or techniques in the field of IPM to include continuing education.
  • Stay current with legal compliance with all regulations.
  • Application of slow release fertilizer to farm fields as well as any other nutritional treatments required of trees in the field.
  • Obtain the Nutrient Management Certification and any other certifications that contribute to the position as instructed.

Additional Requirements:

  • Reliable transportation.
  • Must possess a state issued driver’s license.
  • Experience in identifying pests & diseases on various within the horticulture industry.
  • Pesticide Applicator Certification or equivalent license or prior education/knowledge and or experience.
  • Proficient with using computer systems, maintaining computer logs and data/records.
  • Effective interpersonal and work leadership skills, experience in supervision of staff, planning and coordinating work tasks to team members.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to pass a drug screen.
  • Ability to lift & carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors and be exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand & bend for periods of time.

Work Schedule: 

  • Monday – Friday (6:30 AM – 4:30PM)
  • Hours at times may vary depending on work demands.
  • Saturdays are only required by work load or per the request of Upper Management.
